From the E. Theodore Jordan diary/photos/misc attic find. This lot consists of 4 personal items of E. T. Jordan’s from the mid to late 1800’s. Two leather billfolds, one patented 1893 and an even older, larger one, leather souvenir bookmark of 1000 Islands New York, a very curious item which appears to be a crudely made coal or lava-like casting with the bust of Galileo Galilei, embossed with his name and the date 1811 or 1871, possibly a souvenir paperweight. All in very good condition for its age with no real damage.

This is part of a larger collection being offered in 5 separate auctions, which includes:
1) Auction #310106399740 Twenty-eight, Civil War and post Civil War era, personal diaries of E. Theodore Jordan., of Palmyra, New York, Wayne County. Includes 1854, 1858-1860, 1862-1871, 1873-1877, 1879-1883 and 1885-1888 and 3 carte de vista photos of E.T. Jordan and 2 of his wife. Diaries are a day-to-day record of the daily life of Jordan and his family and friends. Early years begin with him on the family farm, his membership in the Freemasons, excursions via steamship from the east coast to the west coast, his gold mining claims, his horse back delivery business, his return to farming in Palmyra, the early death of his wife during child-birth leaving him with two young children, his new love, a second cousin, and much more.

2) Auction #310106399907 Thirty-nine hand-written personal letters dated 1852-1882, 1874 postcard and approximately 50 pieces of miscellaneous paper items, including receipts, calling cards, lodge membership receipt and notes.

3) Auction #310106399821 Twenty photos in union cases, both ambrotypes and daguerreotypes, dating from the 1850’s to 1880’s and 3 small tin-types and 12 carte de vistas. Several of the photos are of Jordan alone, another with his wife, and one with 2 other men, the remainder are family members or close friends.

4) Auction #310106399954 His personal copy of the Masonic Manual, dated 1855. The five lots being offered represent an excellent summary of the life of E Theodore Jordan, his family and friends and a word and photo story of the Civil War, Reconstruction and Westward Expansion eras in American history.
